"DOWNLOAD: Lisa Marie Naponse – “Spell”"

From the community of Atikameksheng Anishinawbek in Ontario, Ojibway Lisa Marie Naponse‘s path as a soulful rhythm and blues artist began with a bet against her mother. Lisa Marie pocketed 100 bucks when she learned to play and master Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues. Since then, she has continued to share and make music, like this track Spell that so perfectly highlights her powerful blues vocals.

Listen, download, sing along at the top of your lungs and enjoy.

And yes, she was named after Elvis’ daughter. - BY: CHRISTA COUTURE RPM.FM

Bio

Lisa Marie Naponse is a self-taught singer and songwriter from Atikameksheng Anishinawbek, 20 minutes south west of Sudbury, Ontario. Her music can be described as "Indigenous Folk"; a reflection of her life experiences as an Anishinabe Kwe, and inspired by many genre's of music. Growing up, Lisa Marie was surrounded by music and creativity - her mother and father played music and her sisters were pow wow dancers and craftswomen. She wrote her first song in college, and continued to write music throughout university. Following university she moved to Ottawa for a career, and it is in Ottawa where she found her voice and began to share it with others. Ottawa’s open mic community quickly embraced Lisa Marie, and she eventually co-founded an Indigenous Arts Collective that showcased Indigenous performances and art throughout the city. She met many Indigenous artists in music, film, literature, comedy, and visual art, and they will always and forever inspire her! Today Lisa Marie has returned to her community and is working on new music. Lisa Marie has performed at Ottawa’s Summer Solstice National Aboriginal Day Celebrations. In the summer of 2014 she travelled by car, solo, to Banff Alberta where she attended Diverse as this Land: Voice Intensive workshop at the Banff Centre. In 2015 she won the Solo Competition at the Northern Lights Festival Boreal Meltdown where she won a spot to play at the festival. She continues to pursue her goal of recording her debut album, going on tour, and sharing her music with her fans and community.
