Beverly Stokes

A singer-songwriter with roots in the classical tradition, Beverly writes songs that embody "an extraordinary mixture of poetry and observation, a gentle lyricism that seems to arise simply, organically from [their] experience and observation."Originally a classically trained trumpet player and child of a bandleader, Beverly picked up the guitar as a break from coursework as a music student. Falling in love with the intimacy and richness of the singer-songwriter tradition, Beverly traded Beethoven for Bob Dylan and never looked back. 

Beverly's music is driven by evocative and intelligent lyrics, with an acoustic, folk-influenced sound. Drawing from influences such as Ryan Adams, Josh Ritter, Chris Pureka, and Gregory Alan Isakov, Beverly is quickly growing a canon of well-crafted, winsome songs. In 2014, Beverly was awarded an artist residency with the Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts in Saratoga, Wyoming.
